Jason Meyer is a Partner with Gordon & Rees and the director of the Southern California Environmental Group. His practice focuses on all areas of civil litigation including environmental, toxic tort, mass tort, construction accidents, breach of contract and commercial litigation. His environmental and toxic tort experience includes litigation and consulting throughout the state of California. His practice involves a broad range of environmental laws including matters dealing with Proposition 65 claims, claims under the Polanco Redevelopment Act, hazardous substance laws (e.g. CERCLA), diacetyl and chemical exposure, silica, asbestos, air quality, construction, land use law and common law toxic tort actions. He also provides environmental consulting to a broad range of clients faced with groundwater, soil and other contamination issues.
His experience in the business litigation arena includes patent infringement matters, contract disputes, landlord/tenant disputes, and general business consulting. He also has significant experience in the areas of professional liability, wrongful termination, product liability and wrongful death claims. Mr. Meyer has tried numerous cases to verdict, including Superior Court jury and bench trials and binding arbitrations, with successful results in each. He recently obtained a seven-figure result for a client in a partnership dispute.
He is also general counsel, Chief Legal Officer (CLO) and a member of the Board of Directors of DeepOutdoors, a technical diving, luggage and clothing manufacturer.
Following the publication of an article he authored, "Breathtaking Litigation: Diacetyl's Choke on Flavor," by Mealey's Emerging Toxic Torts, he was a featured speaker for a Mealey's teleconference panel entitled "Food Liability-Outbreaks, Recalls, Litigation and Insurance Issues." He also spoke at the 2004 Zurich North America Conference on Toxic Torts in Princeton, NJ, and in 2005, he was invited to Stockholm, Sweden to speak to numerous representatives from over 40 companies in Sweden and Finland at a seminar entitled "Protecting Your Company from U.S. Litigation." He regularly provides clients with comprehensive seminars on managing and controlling the costs of lawsuits.
Mr. Meyer obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of California, San Diego in 1993, where he was named to the Provost Dean’s Honors List. He received a J.D. in 1997 from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.
He is a member of the State Bar of California, licensed to practice in state and federal courts in California.
Mr. Meyer is an avid surfer, traveling throughout the U.S., Mexico, Central America, and Polynesia. He also enjoys snow skiing, basketball, and mountain biking in his spare time.
