Biography

William J. Peters specializes in construction and complex tort litigation at Gordon & Rees and is head of the Construction Practice Group. His practice includes matters involving alleged construction defects, delay and disruption, product liability and trade secrets.

Mr. Peters has represented developers, owners and design professionals in his practice at Gordon & Rees. He has conducted major litigations on behalf of these clients in state and federal courts as well as before the American Arbitration Association. These matters include: large public and private projects as well as multi-family and single family residential projects.

Mr. Peters has also been active in advising clients on bid dispute matters, contractual issues and risk management options. He is frequently involved prior to the commencement of litigation and prior to the completion of a project to give advice on appropriate dispute avoidance actions that can be taken.

Mr. Peters received his J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law in 1982 where he was Editor-in-Chief of the UCLA Journal of Environmental Law and Policy. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of California, Davis in 1978. He is a member of the Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California and the American Bar Association's section on Tort and Insurance Practice. He is also a member of the San Francisco Bar Association. Mr. Peters has given many seminars on a number of topics to clients, local associations and insurers. For 6 consecutive years, Mr. Peters has been named by Super Lawyers magazine as one of the top attorneys in San Francisco in the practice areas of construction/surety litigation.  The selection of "Super Lawyers" is made by Law & Politics, the publisher of Super Lawyers magazine, which conducts annual independent research to determine the top five percent of legal professionals in each state.
